The Promise, not very promising
So yesterday I went to watch The Promise in GSC, Gurney and before I begin my rant, THIS IS A SPOILER WARNING to all those who wish to watch this movie.
Ok, judging by the trailer, I had thought this movie would be a bit like Hero, deep and profound, yet The Promise holds no promise of either. The movie starts off with pictures of dead soldiers and blood, which looks more like gelatinous ribena. Then a girl dressed in rags come and prys a bun from a dead soldier’s hands(why on Earth would a soldier be holding a bun in the middle of a battle?!). The girls bumps into a boy which bla bla bla… until she jumps from one rock to another in a seemingly endless river but while doing so "drops" her bun (terrible hand coordination if you ask me)
Fast forwarding, we come to a battlefield where this general is buying slaves as means of the first line of defence in this battle. Thousands upon thousands of bulls charge at the slaves trapped in a valley where all but one slave survives. How? By running at break neck speed which is an impossible human feat. Bla bla bla again, we see the general fighting the enemy(barbarians) with two golden balls (pun intended).
Fast forwarding again, Kunlun, the road runner’s protege slave, meets up with another quick running person who tells him by running with "desire" can go back in time (while watching this, my eyes rolled so far up I though I couldn’t see again). Bla bla bla bla bla… at the end we see the girl in the beginnning of the movie, now all grown up and hot on the back of Kunlun. Kunlun decides to take her back to the day she made "The Promise" to a goddess (forgot to tell you about that. Oh well). The end.
In a nutshell, this movie deserves a C-, but only because I like the villain in the story, very kewl but still a waste of five ringgit which could have bought me a pretzel from Auntie Ann’s. After watching this movie, I can undoubtedly say that Damien(for Chinese Tall Story) and Eric have terrible taste in movies, every movie they have chosen has been a bust for me. Next time, I’m choosing the movie.
